Unity is proud to present a new collection from Cara Walters. Cara is a long time fine artist and a familiar figure in the NGO and arts communities in South Africa.
"The works on exhibition are mostly drawings and doodles that depict the view from my bedroom window, a view I have become familiar with through nights of sleeplessness and insomnia.
Sometimes the lights in the distance seem hopeful and positive other times the sky above seems oppressive and dark - as I write my nightly journal often about my journey to this new town and my changed environment the lights reflect a form of stability, they are always there.
My thoughts initially on why I was drawing the lights were about connections the lights connecting roads and houses, a university, a community a city... personal connections started being mapped onto the drawings there are four prominent lights directly in front of my window which have become symbols of my changed family. The drawings are mostly ink washes and mixed media and are taken from sketches and doodles in my journals."
