It's WASTED time again, which means awesome new waste art from a big range of city artists including: Prince of Newtown, Robyn Field, Green Footprint, Patrick Mabena, Mandy Coppes, John Alfred, AfriCan, Flip Hattingh and other new faces.

The art on show has been created using everyday waste including as bottle tops, cigarette packet liners, computer hard drives, chip packets, ring pulls, waste paper, old knives and forks and many other common found objects.

If you want you can call it recycled, or up-cycled art, but the artists have really focused on the beauty of what they've created, and on expanding their skills to work with new mediums and forms. The work on show at WASTED focuses, above all else, on beautify and clearly shows the skills of a group of artists and designers who have spent many years challenging the boundaries of medium and material.

There remains a sustainability theme, of course, to much of the work on display – which through its materials and themes raises many issues around the waste produced in such large volume by modern consumer lifestyles. As the work makes clear, much of what is consigned to global rubbish dumps is actually of significant utility and value, if approached with a creative or innovative mind-set.
